For Baltimore, the forecast has shifted from 4-6 inches to a more serious 6-9 inches. Northern areas like Harford and Cecil counties are looking at about 5-7 inches. This info comes straight from Fox45’s Chief Meteorologist, Gerard Jebaily.
As of Sunday, the entire state is under a winter storm warning. Governor Wes Moore declared a state of preparedness on Saturday to help the state respond better to any weather issues that might pop up.
According to a news release from the governor, the snow and freezing temperatures could really mess with transportation across Maryland. They’re warning that roads will likely be icy, so if you have to go out, be super careful.
Snow is expected to start falling in Baltimore after 2 a.m. on Monday and will likely continue throughout the day. There’s even a chance of snow mixing with freezing rain before 4 p.m. The snow should keep coming until around 7 p.m., and any freezing rain is expected to turn into snow after that.
Before the snow hits late Sunday, Baltimore should enjoy mostly sunny skies with a high around 33 degrees. Winds will be blowing at 13 to 16 mph, with gusts reaching up to 23 mph. The low for Sunday night is expected to be around 25 degrees, and there’s a 90% chance of precipitation.
On Monday, the high is forecasted to be 29 degrees, with a 100% chance of precipitation. To prepare for the snowfall, the city started treating the roads with brine late Thursday night and will do it again before the storm hits. The city’s winter shelters will be open through Tuesday.
Additionally, the health department has issued a Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert from Saturday to Tuesday, which means there’s a higher risk for cold-related injuries like frostbite and hypothermia. If anyone needs shelter, they can reach out to the city’s Shelter Hotline at 443-984-9540.
