Mumbai: So, the Mumbai Crime Branch has dropped some jaw-dropping info in the chargesheet about the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. They say it was a contract killing worth ₹17 lakh, mostly funded from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, with the Bishnoi gang heavily involved.
According to sources, they traced the money to Anmol Bishnoi and Shubham Lonkar. These guys set up accounts at Karnataka Bank’s Anand branch in Gujarat under the name of accused Salman Vohra. Lonkar was in charge of handling the deposits, while the Bishnoi gang’s sleeper cells in Uttar Pradesh were moving cash around using Cash Deposit Machines.
It turns out that about 60-70% of the money came from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, and so far, there’s no sign of any foreign funding. But some of the cash did make its way to the accused through hawala networks.
While they’ve tracked the money from Maharashtra, the investigators are still trying to connect the dots for the funds from Uttar Pradesh.
The chargesheet also reveals how carefully the shooters planned everything. Shooter Shiv Kumar Gautam mentioned that after two months of scouting, they were getting frustrated because they couldn’t find the right moment to strike. Finally, on October 12, they got their chance, and they would have called it off if it hadn’t happened that day.
Interestingly, the shooters were ready for a police chase after the shooting. They even bought a pepper spray for ₹13,000 to help them escape. The evidence shows that Gautam fired at Baba Siddique, while Gurmel Singh sprayed the pursuing cops. This whole plan, including the weapons and the pepper spray, shows just how calculated this murder was.
This chilling case is still unfolding as the police chase down more leads related to the money trail and other accomplices tied to the Bishnoi gang.
