Hope: So, the Coquihalla Highway is closed right now. It’s been a wild weekend with power outages and even a landslide. Now, more snow is hitting B.C.

They’re expecting a lot of snow in places like Kitimat, around 15 to 25 cm by Wednesday night. And in the Fraser Valley, Chilliwack could see up to 80 mm of rain. That’s a lot!

DriveBC announced the closure this morning. It’s shut in both directions between Othello Rd. and Merritt because of a vehicle incident. Not great news for travelers.

There are travel advisories for most mountain passes in the Southern Interior. But don’t worry, you can still use Highway 1 and Highway 3 as alternatives.

Just a heads up, if you’re driving, keep an eye on local updates from DriveBC about road conditions and closures.

Winter driving in B.C. can be tricky, especially on the Coquihalla. It’s known for being particularly dangerous when the snow piles up.

As you drive up, you’re climbing over a kilometer above sea level. That means rain can quickly turn into heavy snow, making it a real challenge.

Erin Wenckstern, a meteorologist, explains that this is where the trouble starts. So, if you’re planning to travel, be extra cautious!
