B.C. Cities’ Dry December Set to Be Drenched This Weekend

Vancouver and Victoria are bracing for a significant rainfall this weekend after a surprisingly dry December

Vancouver: It’s been a pretty dry December so far in Vancouver and Victoria. Usually, this time of year, we’re used to a lot more rain. But this month, both cities have only seen about 20 mm and 22.3 mm of rain, which is way below the average.

Typically, Vancouver gets around 172 mm of rain in December, while Victoria usually sees about 137 mm. But this year, it’s been a different story. Just a few months ago, we were dealing with heavy rain, with some areas getting over 800 mm in October and November!

Now, it looks like that dry spell is coming to an end. A low-pressure system is moving in from the Pacific, and it’s bringing rain with it. Starting Friday morning, we can expect the rain to kick in, and it’ll likely stick around through Saturday.

While some areas might catch a break later on Friday, Vancouver will still be getting wet. Victoria will see lighter rain, but it’ll still be there. Plus, winds are expected to pick up, so if you’re planning to take a ferry, be ready for a bumpy ride.

Once this system passes, we’ll go back to dry weather, but it’s going to get colder. Some parts of northern B.C. could even see temperatures drop to the -30s. So, stay warm and keep an eye on the forecast!
