Vancouver: A search is on for someone who got caught in a mudslide that hit their home. This happened over the weekend and even closed the Sea to Sky Highway.
The RCMP reported that they found one body of a resident on Sunday. They’re still looking for the second person. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
This mudslide occurred near Lions Bay, about 40 kilometers north of Vancouver, during a nasty windstorm that hit the south coast of B.C. on Saturday.
Good news is that Highway 99 reopened on Sunday after crews cleared the debris. This route connects Vancouver and Whistler, so it’s a big deal for travelers.
Some residents had to evacuate as a safety measure, but the mayor of Lions Bay, Ken Berry, mentioned that evacuation notices for two properties have been lifted.
However, the local state of emergency is still in effect. This helps the village get more resources from the province to deal with the situation.
Multiple agencies are working together, including search and rescue teams, police, and fire services, to find the missing person. It’s a real community effort.
