Sigatoka: So, there’s been a bit of a scare in Fiji. A group of Australian tourists got really sick, and it looks like it might be from bad alcohol. Two families are getting help right now.

Apparently, this all went down at a resort on Fiji’s Coral Coast. Seven guests ended up in the hospital after drinking, and they had some pretty rough symptoms like nausea and vomiting.

Some of them were taken to Sigatoka Hospital, and a couple had to be moved to Lautoka Hospital for more care. The ages of those affected range from 18 to 56, which is quite a spread.

The Australian government is stepping in, offering consular support to the families involved. They mentioned they can’t share too much info due to privacy rules, though.

After this incident, they updated their travel advice for Fiji. They’re reminding travelers to stay alert about drink spiking and the risks of methanol poisoning from alcohol.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Just last year, a similar situation in Laos led to the tragic deaths of two Australian tourists due to suspected methanol poisoning.
