Australian police are investigating a firebomb attack on a Melbourne synagogue as a terrorist act, leaving the community in shock and fear.

Melbourne: Last week, a synagogue in Melbourne was hit by a firebomb attack, and it’s being treated as a terrorist act by the police. The Adass Israel synagogue caught fire around 4 a.m., forcing everyone to evacuate.
The flames quickly took over the building, causing serious damage and injuring at least one person. Eyewitnesses reported seeing firebombs thrown inside the synagogue, which is just horrifying.
Victoria’s police chief, Shane Patton, made it clear that this was a targeted attack. He said it was a “callous and horrific” act against the synagogue and, by extension, the Jewish community. It’s just awful to think about.
Authorities are now on the hunt for three suspects involved in this attack. Both state and federal police, along with the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, are working together on this case.
Victoria’s premier, Jacinta Allan, expressed her support for the Jewish community, calling the attack “evil” and confirming it as a terrorist act. It’s a significant moment for the community, and they need all the support they can get.
After discussions with federal police, the Victoria police decided to classify the incident as terrorism. Federal police deputy commissioner Krissy Barrett stated they are well-prepared to handle this investigation.
Interestingly, there were concerns about a bullet found outside the synagogue, but Patton assured everyone that there’s no connection to the attack. They’re just being thorough by examining it.
In response to rising antisemitism, federal police have launched a new task force called Abalight. This team will focus on threats and violence against the Jewish community, ready to respond quickly to any incidents.
