Queensland: So, there’s this little-known green circle marking popping up on Aussie roads, and it could actually save lives. With the holiday season here, families are hitting the roads, and this is a timely reminder.
If you’ve seen those green dots on roadside poles, do you know what they mean? You’re not alone if you don’t! Federal MP Colin Boyce recently reached out to folks, sharing a photo and explaining these markings. They’re super easy to miss, but they’re important.
Basically, those green reflectors tell drivers when there’s a safe spot to pull over. About 500 meters before a safe area, you’ll see three green dots. Then, as you get closer, two dots show up, and finally, just one dot right before the pull-over spot. It’s a neat system designed by a truck driver named Rod Hannifey, aimed at helping all drivers, not just the big rigs.
After Boyce shared this info, a ton of people chimed in on social media, saying how great this idea is, especially for caravan and motorhome drivers. Fatigue can hit hard on long trips, and knowing where to safely stop is a big deal.
One woman said, “A lot more people need to know about this. Especially people with caravans.” Another added how stressful it is driving at night with a baby in the back and not knowing where to pull over. It’s clear that many folks either didn’t notice these markers or just didn’t know what they were for.
With caravan sales booming, there’s been a spike in road incidents this year. Sadly, Queensland has seen a rise in road fatalities, making this reminder even more crucial as we head into the busy holiday season.
