Bondi Beach: So, there’s this whole thing going on with CoolCabanas at the beach. They’re super popular in Australia, and even Aldi is selling a cheaper version now. But not everyone is thrilled about them taking up so much space on the sand.
One beachgoer, Charl, took to social media to vent her frustration. She felt like there was “no room” left for anyone else because these cabanas were everywhere. She even said, “I think Cool Cabana culture in Australia has gone f**king insane.”
She described being surrounded by a bunch of these cabanas while just trying to chill by the water. It was wild! She noticed a group with three cabanas set up, and they were still sitting outside in the sun. “You’re literally taking up a 10 by 10 square metre radius on the beach,” she pointed out.
Charl argued that groups of fewer than four people shouldn’t even be allowed to have one. She was really passionate about it, saying, “there’s no room for anyone else anymore.”
Her post blew up, getting over a million views. While some folks agreed with her, others defended the cabanas, saying they’re essential for shade in the scorching Aussie sun.
One person joked, “How dare people seek shade in the blistering Australian sun.” But seriously, having shade is super important, especially for skin protection, as Anne Cust from the Cancer Council pointed out.
She suggested using trees or bringing your own shade structures, and CoolCabanas do offer good sun protection with UPF 50+. Some people even worried that these cabanas might block lifeguards’ views, but the CEO of Surf Life Saving Australia said that’s not an issue. Lifeguards are trained to adapt and keep an eye on things.
