Seymour: So, this Aussie family who lives in their caravan had a wild experience recently. They were just cruising along when out of nowhere, a wild hare slammed into their windscreen with a huge bang. Talk about a shock!
Dr. Tania Mitchell and her husband Marcus, along with their kids, were driving their 4WD when Marcus noticed something moving by the roadside. Then, bam! The windscreen shattered, and glass went everywhere. Tania shared that it was a wild hare that caused all the chaos.
Luckily, they were only going about 30 km/h, so everyone was okay. But sadly, the hare didn’t make it. Tania described it as a big hare, around three kilograms, that jumped too high and hit the windscreen directly.
The damage to their 4WD was pretty significant. It’s wild to think that collisions with animals are on the rise in Australia. In fact, there were over 19,000 animal-related crashes last year, and many ended badly.
Tania feels they dodged a bullet this time, especially since they’ve had close calls with kangaroos before. She emphasized that driving slowly can really help avoid serious accidents with wildlife.
It’s a reminder for all drivers to keep an eye out and control their speed. After all, not just the passengers but also the animals deserve to be safe on the roads.
