Kilmarnock: So, there was this pretty wild incident at HMP Kilmarnock. Two guys, Andrew Burns and Dale Lockhart, just got sentenced for their part in a nasty assault on another inmate.

This all went down back in February 2022. Burns, who’s 37, and Lockhart, 29, were both locked up at the time. They were part of a group of five inmates who jumped this other guy without any warning.

The prosecutor laid it out in court. Apparently, the victim was just trying to get back to his cell when they surrounded him and started throwing punches. It was pretty brutal, with the guy getting kicked and stamped on while he was down.

When the prison staff finally got there, Lockhart decided to bail, but the others kept going. The poor guy ended up with a black eye and some nasty bruises.

At the hearing, both guys had lawyers who tried to explain their actions. Burns’ lawyer mentioned that he hasn’t caused any trouble since getting out, while Lockhart’s lawyer said he walked away before things got really bad.

In the end, the sheriff decided to give Burns 18 months of supervision and 150 hours of community service. Lockhart’s sentence was put on hold so he could finish a drug treatment program. Three other guys involved in the attack had already been sentenced earlier.
