Brisbane: So, there’s been a wild turn of events in this abuse case involving a Channel 7 star. A bunch of charges against a woman were just tossed out in court. Can you believe it?
During the hearing, the woman was visibly upset as the magistrate, Stuart Shearer, said there wasn’t enough evidence to back up the serious charges like torture and assault. It’s pretty shocking, right?
This whole mess started back in August 2023 when both the woman and a man, who were on a popular Channel 7 show, were hit with abuse-related charges. The allegations go way back, with some incidents happening over 20 years ago.
Even though many charges were dropped, the woman still has to face 12 charges in the District Court, including some pretty serious ones like unlawful assault and rape. She didn’t even want to say anything when asked by the judge.
The man, on the other hand, is looking at eight counts of assault and other charges. He’s set to appear in court again in April. It’s all a bit of a mess, and neither of them spoke to the media after the hearing.
Interestingly, one of the main complainants admitted to lying in her initial statement, which really complicates things. The court has also put a non-publication order on the woman’s identity, so we can’t know who they are.
Magistrate Shearer was pretty firm about the charges, saying many were “duplicitous” and didn’t have enough backing. He even told the police prosecutor that they should have charged the right things from the start.
This whole situation has been dragging on for a year, and it’s clear there are still a lot of questions left unanswered. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
