Newcastle: On May 23, 2023, Dilovan Sindi made a terrible choice. He doused furniture and people inside a barbershop with petrol. It was a shocking scene.

He walked in with a petrol can, and after a struggle, he accidentally ignited the fuel with a lighter. The explosion was horrific, injuring him and leaving another man with severe burns.

That poor guy spent six months in the hospital. A child and his dad were there too, and while they weren’t physically hurt, they’re dealing with serious emotional scars.

One man got away with minor injuries, but he’s also getting counseling to cope with what happened. It turns out Sindi had a beef with the barbershop owner, which led to this madness.

Emergency services were quick to respond, and Northumbria Police wasted no time figuring out who was behind the fire. Sindi ended up needing a lot of medical care himself.

After he got out, he was arrested and faced some serious charges, including attempted murder. In September, he pleaded guilty to arson and other charges.

He was sentenced to seven years and two months in prison. Detective Inspector Rona Malessa from Northumbria Police spoke out after the hearing, expressing sympathy for the victims.

She highlighted how awful the whole situation was and thanked the emergency services for their quick action that day. Sindi’s actions were described as utterly unacceptable, and thankfully, the outcome wasn’t worse.

Malessa hopes this case shows that violent offenders will be held accountable in the community. It’s a tough reminder of how quickly things can go wrong.
