Arrested Man Described as ‘Highly Aggressive and Extremely Violent’
A misconduct hearing reveals shocking details about an aggressive arrest incident
Swansea, Wales, Tariq Evans, Police Misconduct, Assault
Swansea: So, there was this wild incident involving a guy named Tariq Evans. He got arrested and apparently was super aggressive. The police had to put him in leg braces, handcuffs, and even a spit hood. Can you believe that?
During the misconduct hearing, they said he ran at a police van and even headbutted the window! He was shouting all sorts of abuse, kicking one officer, and biting another so hard that the officer needed hospital treatment. It sounds like a scene from a movie!
Now, there’s a police sergeant, Rhodri Davies, who’s facing some serious allegations about how he handled the situation. He’s accused of using excessive force when bringing Evans into the police station. But he’s denying all of it, saying he did nothing wrong.
Another officer, PC Jack Williams, was caught on body cam footage beating Evans after chasing him down for some alleged criminal damage. He ended up getting jailed for 12 weeks for assault. It’s all pretty intense.
There’s also this other officer, PC Steve Rees, who claimed that Sgt Davies used too much force for no reason. But when questioned, he admitted he didn’t see anything excessive. It’s a bit of a mess, honestly.
Evans, who’s 6ft 7in tall, was described as highly agitated and possibly under the influence of drugs. The barrister for Davies said that when they tried to arrest him, he slammed his head against the police van and even assaulted one of the officers. Talk about a tough situation!
During the hearing, they played video footage showing Evans in a really agitated state. He was swearing and threatening the officers, saying things like, “I’m a f***ing big boy.” It’s wild how things escalated so quickly.
One officer, PC Rickwood, who was trying to calm Evans down, said he thought he had de-escalated the situation a bit. But when he turned away for a moment, things got out of hand, and Evans ended up on the floor with Sgt Davies. It’s unclear what exactly happened next, but it seems like things got physical.
Other officers at the scene felt that the force used was necessary given how aggressive Evans was acting. They all seemed to agree that he was a risk to himself and the officers. It’s a tough call, but it sounds like the hearing is still ongoing.
