Middleton: So, there’s this wild story from Greater Manchester. An elderly guy got scammed out of a whopping £250,000 by some fake renovators. Can you believe it?

It all started when bank staff noticed something fishy. They saw this man trying to send nearly £100,000 to a supposed contractor. That raised some red flags, and they called the police.

When the cops showed up, they found out he’d been shelling out big bucks for what seemed like minor stuff, like just painting his house. It’s crazy how these scammers work!

While the police were there, the suspect showed up and got arrested for fraud. Talk about bad timing, right?

Later on, detectives discovered that the money had been spent on all sorts of things, like fancy dinners and even luxury clothes and jewelry. Just awful!

Det Supt Andy Buckthorpe from the police said it was shocking how far this exploitation went. He praised the bank for catching it early and helping to protect the victim.

He also mentioned that fraud can really mess with people’s lives and families. It’s a serious issue that shouldn’t be taken lightly.

The police are planning to keep working with local banks to spot these scams before they get out of hand. It’s all about keeping the community safe!
