Galway: Meteorologists say a big cold weather system is heading to Ireland. It could last almost a week later this month.
Weather models show an anticyclone forming over Ireland and the UK. This will bring very cold air from the east and west around mid-February.
Generational Weather shared a map showing much of Europe at -5 degrees Celsius. Icy weather will reach as far down as Ireland.
They captioned the weather chart for February 19, saying, “Well unfortunately, things are taking a turn.”
James Peacock, a meteorologist at MetSwift, shared a video of temperature and pressure forecasts for Europe. He noted the cold air moving towards Ireland from the Atlantic.
The video shows polar air curving north towards the Arctic, then dropping south over Scandinavia. It loops back towards Ireland from the east.
Expect the coldest weather in Ireland on the weekend of February 16 and 17.
