San Antonio: The Texas Agricultural Land Trust (TALT) is calling on landowners in Texas to join the Coastal Prairie Additive Conservation Partnership. This is a big deal for preserving our coastal prairie ecosystems, which are disappearing fast.
Thanks to funding from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, this program gives landowners a chance to protect important habitats. They can do this through voluntary conservation easements and detailed conservation plans.
The Texas Coastal Tallgrass Prairie is one of the most endangered ecosystems in the U.S. There are only about 100,000 acres left of what used to be a huge, vibrant landscape. This loss has hit wildlife hard, especially the critically endangered Attwater’s prairie chicken and other rare species. TALT and its partners want to save these grasslands while also promoting farming practices that help both wildlife and the land.
If you’re a landowner in the coastal area, you can apply from January 15 to February 28, 2025. The program offers both financial and technical support to those who want to keep their lands productive while helping the coastal prairie ecosystem.
Chad Ellis, TALT’s CEO, expressed excitement about this new round of applications. He said, “We are thrilled to open this next round of applications and continue building partnerships with landowners who are stewards of Texas’ coastal treasures.” Together, they hope to make a lasting difference in conserving these unique landscapes.
The Coastal Prairie Additive Conservation Partnership is backed by a group of conservation leaders and organizations, including AgriCapture, Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, and Ducks Unlimited, among others.
