Longtown: So, there’s been a bit of a situation with some trees after the recent storms. A planning application has been sent to Cumberland Council to take down six trees that got damaged.
The person behind this request is Hayle Hope. She’s worried about safety since the trees at her place on Netherby Street have seen better days. The storm really did a number on them.
Among the trees are four Leylandii, a Scots Pine, and a Silver Birch. They’re not just any trees; they’re close to her home, which makes things a bit risky, especially if more bad weather rolls in.
Apparently, the storms caused some branches to snap and raised concerns about the roots being stable. It’s a real worry for her, and she’s not alone in thinking it’s time to act.
Now, these trees are under a Tree Preservation Order, which means they can’t just be chopped down without the council’s say-so. That’s a legal thing to protect important trees.
Hayle got some help from Edward Bates at Tree Beard Tree Surgery Ltd to put this application together. If anyone wants to check it out or share their thoughts, they can find it on the council’s planning portal.
