Carlisle: So, there’s this planning application in Carlisle where a guy named Mike Lowther wants to take down a big sycamore tree in his garden. He filed it with Cumberland Council not too long ago.

The tree is at 79 Etterby Lea Crescent and has a Tree Preservation Order on it, which means it’s supposed to be protected. But Mike says it’s just too big for the space and is causing a lot of problems.

He claims the tree is blocking some BT service lines and making it really dark for the houses nearby. Plus, it’s even damaged some outbuildings and fences on his property. He included photos in his application to show just how bad it is.

There’s also a map that shows exactly where the tree is and how it relates to the other houses around it. Tree preservation orders are there to keep important trees safe, so the council will take a good look at this request.

They’ll talk to the right people before making a decision. If you’re interested, you can check out the application on the council’s planning portal under reference PP-13661212. But it looks like Mike hasn’t mentioned anything about planting a new tree to replace it.
