Apple Settles Siri Eavesdropping Lawsuit for $95 Million
Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement over claims that Siri eavesdropped on users’ private conversations without consent
Apple, Siri, Privacy, Lawsuit, California, US
The whole thing started about five years ago when folks noticed that Siri might be listening in when it shouldn’t. Apple, of course, insists they didn’t do anything wrong. They’re sticking to their guns, saying they deny any wrongdoing.
The settlement is still waiting for a judge’s thumbs up. If it goes through, people who had their conversations captured could get up to $20 for each device they own. That’s not too shabby!
Plus, Apple has to make sure they’ve deleted any of that overheard stuff and be clearer about how they use voice data to improve Siri. It’s all about keeping users in the loop, right?
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a tech giant has faced privacy issues. Just this year, Amazon had to cough up over $30 million for similar privacy violations with its Alexa and Ring products. It seems like privacy is a hot topic these days!
