Southampton: October Books, the only community-owned bookshop, needs help. They’re hosting a donation event on February 15. A £5 contribution can make a difference.

This money will help keep the bookshop open during tough times. The shop is run by dedicated staff and volunteers focused on social change.

In 2018, the community saved October Books by forming a human chain. They helped move it to its current spot on Portswood Road.

Liz Amos, author of ‘All the Truths Between Us’, will host the fundraiser. Amelia, a long-serving staff member, will join her.

Liz mentioned a great mix of poets will perform. Both young and adult poets will share their work, including first-time performers.

October Books aims to be an inclusive space for everyone. They welcome all kinds of stories and voices.

If you want to read your poetry at the event, contact Liz at liz@liz-amos.com.

For more details and tickets, visit octoberbooks.lemonbooking.com/events/76/details. The event runs from 2:30 PM to 5 PM at the bookshop.

October Books also hosts a monthly open mic poetry night every third Friday. It’s the oldest community-owned, independent bookshop in Southampton.

The shop champions diverse voices and fosters connections through writing. A spokesperson said creating safe, creative spaces is essential in today’s world.
