Ayr, Queensland, Isaac Oar, Down Syndrome, Neglect
Ayr: A tragic situation has unfolded in Ayr, Queensland. A 56-year-old man named Isaac Oar, who had Down syndrome, was found dead weighing just 29 kilograms. His sister, who was his caregiver, is now a person of interest in the investigation.
Isaac was discovered at a home on Alice Street on August 10, 2023. The police are looking into how he was cared for, especially since he hadn’t received any professional medical treatment in over ten years.
Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd mentioned that Isaac was severely malnourished at the time of his death. They believe that neglect over the years may have contributed to his condition.
The police are urging anyone from the Burdekin community who might have information about Isaac’s care to come forward. They think there are people who interacted with the family and could help shed light on the situation.
While the investigation focuses on his sister, there’s no indication of wrongdoing by anyone else at this point. If they can’t find someone responsible, the case may go to the coroner for further examination.
A funeral service for Isaac was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayr on August 24, 2023. It’s a heartbreaking case that has left many in the community concerned.
