Hull: A wildlife rescue group is feeling pretty crushed after some pet ducks were just dumped in a park. They were left all alone to deal with the freezing cold.
Sadly, by the time help arrived, one duck had already died, and another was hurt pretty badly. It all went down at Peter Pan Park, and it’s just heartbreaking.
Charlotte Smith from Hull Wildlife Protectors said this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. She’s urging folks not to just toss out animals like that. If you can’t care for them, reach out for help instead.
They got a message about the situation early Sunday morning. The ducks had their wings clipped, so they couldn’t escape or find food. To make matters worse, some kids were seen throwing stuff at them. Just awful!
Luckily, a kind-hearted boy saw what was happening and ran home to tell his dad. His dad stepped in and told the kids to knock it off. But sadly, one duck didn’t make it through the night.
The volunteers jumped into action, contacting Ren’s Wildlife Hospital for help. They also called in the fire department and the police because the lake was frozen over, making it super dangerous.
They managed to guide the ducks to safety, but one of them had a nasty neck injury and all of them were showing signs of being sick. It’s just so sad to think about what they went through.
Charlotte pointed out that domestic ducks aren’t like wild ones. They don’t know how to fend for themselves, and leaving them in a park is just a recipe for disaster.
Hull Wildlife Protectors is asking for donations to help with the ducks’ recovery. They want everyone to remember that animals need our care and compassion. Abandoning them is just cruel.
They also gave a big shoutout to the fire service and the brave dad and son who helped out. Without them, things could have been a lot worse.
Humberside Fire and Rescue reminded everyone to stay off frozen water. It might look safe, but it can be really dangerous. They’ve got more safety tips on their website.
