Glasgow: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde created a new app. It helps patients and families manage dissociative seizures.

Dissociative seizures can cause episodes where people lose awareness. This can make it hard to interact with others.

Many mistake this condition for epilepsy, leading to wrong treatments. The app aims to provide accurate support.

With help from the Scottish Government, NHSGGC staff developed the app. In just three months, over 300 people have used it.

Feedback has been great. Clinicians, patients, and families find the app helpful. You can download it from the Play Store or App Store by searching ‘Right Decisions’.

After installing, open the app and look for ‘Dissociative Seizures’. You can also access it online at https://tinyurl.com/5xttkct4.

Dr. Sharon Mulhern and Dr. Saif Razvi were key in developing the app. Dr. Razvi noted the shame often felt by those with this condition.

He mentioned that families rarely talked about it due to feelings of isolation. There was also a lack of information available.

Dr. Mulhern explained that the app serves as a central resource. It helps users understand the condition and how to manage it.

The app provides information on why some medications may not work. It also offers strategies tailored to individual lives.

This free app is part of the NHS Right Decisions service. It’s designed to assist both patients and their caregivers.

Susan Groom from NHSGGC praised the app’s impact. She looks forward to seeing its benefits grow in the future.
