Brisbane: Supporters were all smiles in court when Dr. William Anicha Bay got the green light to practice medicine again. This came after a judge lifted his medical ban, which had been in place since August 2022.

Dr. Bay’s troubles started when the Medical Board of Australia suspended his registration due to complaints about his anti-vaccine stance. The judge, Justice Thomas Bradley, found that the board had acted with bias and didn’t give Dr. Bay a fair chance to defend himself.

Justice Bradley made it clear he wasn’t taking sides in the vaccine debate. He just wanted to ensure the board followed proper procedures. One of the complaints against Dr. Bay was a social media video where he claimed COVID-19 vaccines had harmed his patients.

He also faced backlash for attending an anti-vaccine protest and interrupting a medical conference while live-streaming his objections to vaccine mandates. The board felt his public comments undermined their authority and the government’s health guidelines.

Justice Bradley acknowledged the pandemic was a unique time, but that didn’t justify the board’s actions. He ordered the medical board to pay Dr. Bay’s legal fees, as they had dragged out the process and admitted some fault late in the game.
