Paignton: Another popular attraction at Paignton Zoo is reopening. The Arid Lands exhibit is back, featuring Cape porcupines Comet and Luna.

After a recent refurbishment, the indoor desert-themed area is ready for visitors. Comet and Luna are thriving in their new habitat.

The exhibit has undergone extensive renovations. It now offers a glimpse into the porcupines’ natural environment.

Located in the zoo’s heart, the space includes enrichment elements. These encourage natural behaviors like foraging and burrowing.

Owen Taylor, the zoo’s Mammals Curator, shared that Comet and Luna have adapted well. They are most active during winter evenings, making them easier to spot.

These Cape porcupines are the largest rodents in Africa. Despite their quills, they are gentle and often engage in affectionate behaviors.

The renovated exhibit shows Paignton Zoo’s commitment to wildlife care. Repair work is also ongoing at the Tropical Trails facility after storm damage.

Scaffolding is up for roof repairs, expected to take several weeks. The resident sloths, Mo and Ria, are temporarily off-show during this time.

The zoo will keep everyone updated on the restoration progress. Exciting times are ahead for visitors!
