Pontarddulais: So, guess what? Wales is getting an extra £1.5 million for warm hubs! These places are like cozy havens where folks can hang out, get advice, and stay warm during tough times.
They’re not just about warmth, though. Many hubs help people manage their bills, claim benefits, and even offer tips on saving energy. Plus, they’re great for socializing, learning new skills, or just enjoying a hot drink and a good chat.
This funding is part of the Welsh Government’s budget for 2025/26, building on the same amount allocated this year. It’s all about keeping these hubs running strong and supporting communities year-round.
Each warm hub is designed to meet local needs and gets its funding from local authorities. They rely on amazing volunteers who create friendly and inclusive spaces for everyone.
Recently, Jane Hutt, the cabinet secretary for social justice, visited the Pontarddulais Warm Hub to see how these places are making a real difference.
This hub is open all year and runs four times a week, providing a safe spot for the community to stay warm, make friends, enjoy activities, and share meals.
Catherine Evans, the coordinator, mentioned that without these hubs, many people would feel isolated and struggle with rising costs and limited resources.
She said, “We’re proud to offer warmth, nourishment, and companionship, making sure no one feels forgotten.”
Ms. Hutt added that this funding means people across Wales can keep accessing these welcoming spaces. “Warm hubs are about people helping people,” she said, emphasizing their importance for everyone.
This investment is part of a broader support package from the Welsh Government, showing their commitment to community well-being.
