Salford: A shocking story just came out about a rogue trader who took advantage of an elderly widow. This poor woman needed her leaky skylight fixed, and instead, she got ripped off for nearly £8,000.
The trader, Christopher Parr, operated under the name ‘Up and Over Roofing and Building.’ He convinced the 85-year-old that her roof needed major work. So, she ended up making five payments to him, totaling £7,800. Can you believe that?
But here’s the kicker: Parr never came back to finish the job. He kept making excuses, saying his family was sick and that he had cancer. Meanwhile, the widow’s home was left vulnerable to the winter weather.
Eventually, she had to hire another contractor to fix the roof, which cost her an additional £4,777. Plus, she had to spend another £300 to fix water damage from the leaks. It’s just heartbreaking.
After the council got involved, they found out that the work Parr did was shoddy at best. They even had an expert look at it, and he said the work was worthless. Parr was eventually caught and sentenced to over two years in prison.
He was also ordered to pay the widow nearly £13,000 in compensation. The council is really hoping this sends a message to other rogue traders out there. It’s just not right to prey on vulnerable people like that.
