Cardiff: So, the Met Office has dropped an amber weather warning for snow and ice over parts of Wales and England this weekend. They’re saying we could see some serious snow and freezing rain, which might mess with transport and other services.
They’re warning us about possible power cuts and road closures too. This amber warning is set to hit most of Wales, the Midlands, and parts of northern England, starting Saturday evening and lasting until midday Sunday.
The Met Office is predicting that snow will get heavy in some areas as it moves from south to north. Plus, we might have some freezing rain, which could make travel pretty tricky. But don’t worry, milder weather is expected to roll in by Sunday morning.
They’re forecasting about 3 to 7 centimeters of snow for most places, but higher ground in Wales could see 15 to 30 centimeters. The freezing rain could lead to icy patches, especially in Wales, before things warm up and start melting away.
On Saturday, they’re advising folks to avoid driving if possible. If you really need to go out, think about using public transport instead. If you must drive, they’ve got some tips to keep you safe, like using dipped headlights and taking it easy on the gas.
There’s also a yellow warning for ice covering parts of Wales, England, and Scotland for Friday and Saturday. This warning is in effect from Friday afternoon until Saturday morning, so keep an eye out.
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing again, which means ice could form on untreated surfaces. So, if you’re heading out, give yourself a little extra time to avoid any slips or falls.
By Sunday morning, most of the snow should turn to rain, and it looks like it’ll be a chilly but dry start to Monday, with temperatures dipping as low as -3°.
