North Wales: Allegations involving OnlyFans have been reported to the police. These include sharing naked images and selling a sex tape. Over the last five years, six allegations have come to light. A joint investigation with the Mirror revealed these details.

Only one arrest was made, but no charges followed. This was due to issues with evidence and claimants withdrawing their allegations. The OnlyFans site itself wasn’t responsible for the crimes. It was mentioned in the crime reports, but not all incidents were directly linked to it.

In July 2020, a woman in Gwynedd reported receiving abusive messages from her ex. He allegedly shared nude photos of her on Facebook. Then in May 2021, someone in Wrexham claimed their ex uploaded a naked picture after a breakup.

In July 2021, a person in Conwy said a suspect shared an indecent image from her OnlyFans on Twitter. That same month, a 17-year-old on Anglesey revealed he set up an OnlyFans page and was making money from underwear photos.

In December 2023, Wrexham police received a report about a fake account. This account allegedly had 100 photos and 14 videos of the victim. In July last year, a man in Flintshire reported that his ex sold a sex tape to an OnlyFans account.

Across Wales, there were 53 alleged crimes, including “revenge porn.” In one case, a victim’s ex uploaded a sexual photo to OnlyFans and shared it with her family. In another, a video of a couple was posted without permission.

Other Welsh police forces reported no arrests or charges. In many cases, suspects were identified, but evidence issues prevented further action. Some victims also chose not to support police action.

OnlyFans, a British company, has grown into a £5 billion industry. It’s known for DIY pornography and stunts by creators. The CEO, Keily Blair, stated that they verify the age and identity of everyone on the platform.

In 2022, OnlyFans tightened its procedures, requiring proof of consent for explicit content. The Mirror reported over 1,250 crimes across the UK, with only 4% resulting in charges.

Reported crimes have increased significantly, rising by 256% from 2020 to 2023. A spokesperson from the National Police Chiefs’ Council emphasized the importance of reporting these serious crimes.

They noted that tech-enabled crimes are evolving quickly. It’s crucial for tech companies to help remove harmful content. Education on consent and healthy relationships is also vital to prevent these issues.

Jess Phillips, the Safeguarding Minister, highlighted the government’s commitment to reducing violence against women and girls. They are cracking down on platforms that allow criminals to operate online.

North Wales Police have been approached for comment.
