All Schools Closed in Greater Manchester as Sub-Zero Cold Snap Continues

Bitter cold temperatures lead to widespread school closures in Greater Manchester, affecting many students and families across the region

Greater Manchester: Schools are shutting down due to the freezing temperatures. This morning, it dropped to a chilly -8C, according to the Met Office.

It’s been a rough start to 2025 with flooding, snow, and ice hitting the area. The UK Health Security Agency has even issued an amber cold health alert until January 12.

Plus, there’s a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in parts of the North West, including Wigan. Many schools are closed today, but some are offering online learning for students stuck at home.

Throughout the week, dozens of schools have closed on different days. Some have reopened, while others are closing again today.

Here’s a list of schools confirmed closed this morning, and it’ll be updated as more closures come in.
