Alex Murphy, Rugby League, St Helens, England, Vascular Dementia

St Helens: So, Alex Murphy, a rugby league legend, is in a bit of a pickle. His family found out over Christmas that a bunch of his medals went missing. Can you believe it?

This guy had an amazing career, starting with St Helens when he was just 16. He won four Challenge Cup Finals and played for Great Britain. Talk about a legend!

He didn’t just stop at playing; he also coached several teams, including Warrington and Wigan. But things took a turn when he was diagnosed with vascular dementia in late 2024, right after losing his wife, Alice. That was a tough blow for him.

Now, at 85, Alex has been a bit lost. His family says he’s been giving away his medals to strangers, sometimes at the pub or even at home. It’s really sad to hear.

His family is understandably upset and has put out a heartfelt appeal on social media, asking anyone who might have his medals to return them. They’re not just important to them; they mean a lot to rugby history.

Rugby League Cares is stepping in, urging anyone who has received any of Alex’s memorabilia to do the right thing. They want to help get his prized collection back to him and his family.

If you know someone who has his medals, they’re asking you to reach out at info@rlcares.org.uk. Let’s help restore this piece of rugby history!
