Irlam: So, there’s been some pretty alarming news in the community lately. A councillor mentioned that folks are really worried after two schoolgirls were approached by strangers on the same day.
It all started when police got reports of a man and a woman in a car and a van trying to grab an 11-year-old girl as she walked to school. This happened around 8:30 AM on Tuesday. Can you imagine how scary that must have been for her?
They say the girl was approached on Silver Street, but thankfully, the suspects took off quickly. But that’s not all. Later that day, another girl in Urmston had a close call when a man lunged at her while she was near her school.
Parents were understandably freaked out and got a warning from Flixton Girls School about the incident. The school said a man walked towards a year seven pupil and scared her by lunging at her. It’s just so unsettling.
Councillor Lewis Eric Nelson spoke out, saying there’s a lot of understandable alarm in the community. He’s urging everyone to stay vigilant and check their CCTV footage to help the police. It’s a tough situation, and he’s really concerned about the safety of the kids.
He emphasized that the community needs to take precautions and talk to their children about staying safe. The police are still looking for the suspects, and no arrests have been made yet.
They described the male suspect as white, about 5ft 9, with short dark hair, wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie. The woman was also white and wore leggings and a black hoodie. The car was a black four-door, and the van was small and white.
It’s just a reminder for all of us to keep an eye out and look out for one another. If anyone has information, they can reach out to the police or Crimestoppers. Let’s hope they catch those responsible soon.
