Sydney: An airline worker is in hot water after getting caught trying to smuggle drugs at the airport. This guy was working on an international flight from South Africa when he was stopped by the Australian Border Force.

They searched his bags and found three shampoo bottles and a water bottle filled with 4.1 liters of liquid. Turns out, the liquid tested positive for gamma butyrolactone, or GBL, which is a banned substance similar to GHB.

GBL is often used in cleaning products and nail polish, but when ingested, it turns into GHB, known as liquid ecstasy. Not exactly what you want to be carrying around, right?

The Australian Federal Police got involved and arrested the guy. They’re serious about cracking down on anyone who tries to use their job to smuggle drugs. The AFP said they won’t let anyone abuse their position to traffic drugs into Australia.

They’re working hard with other agencies to keep the community safe from these kinds of threats. The man has been charged with importing a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, which could land him a life sentence.

He appeared in court and is now in custody, with his next court date set for February 4. Looks like he’ll be spending Christmas behind bars!
