London: So, AFC Wimbledon had to call off their match against Cheltenham Town because the pitch was frozen solid. It was supposed to be a fun Saturday afternoon game, but Mother Nature had other plans.
The Dons were all set to kick off at 3 PM, but the ground staff just couldn’t get the pitch ready. They worked hard all night, moving growlights around to try and thaw things out. But with temperatures dropping to minus five degrees, it was just too much for the pitch covers to handle.
Even when the sun came out, they were still hopeful. They had a referee check the pitch at noon, but sadly, it was still deemed unsafe to play. It’s a real bummer for fans who traveled far to see the game.
Wimbledon apologized for the hassle and invited all ticket holders to hang out at a local pub instead. Plus, they’re focusing on helping the community by distributing food to those in need. It’s nice to see them looking out for others during this chilly situation.
