Newcastle: So, there’s this ad that was filmed on Vicky Pattison’s wedding day, and it’s been banned. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) stepped in because they felt it glamorized smoking.
The ad was shared on Instagram by Ercan Ramadan, who’s from The Only Way is Essex, and his wife, Vicky, who used to be on Geordie Shore. It showed Ercan and his groomsmen puffing on cigars, which didn’t sit well with the watchdog.
The ASA said the ad made smoking look like a fun and glamorous thing to do. They received complaints about it not being labeled as an ad and for promoting smoking in a positive light.
They pointed out that even though the ad was for menswear, the focus was clearly on the smoking. The slow-motion shots and jazzy music just added to that vibe, making it seem even more appealing.
In the end, the ASA ruled that this kind of ad can’t be shown again. It’s a reminder that even in the world of glam and glitz, there are still rules to follow.
Sky News has reached out to both Vicky and Ercan for their thoughts on the situation.
