Accused ‘Sadistic, Vile’ Rapist Set for New Trial After Convictions Overturned
A man previously convicted of raping two teens will face a new trial after his earlier convictions were overturned by the Court of Appeal

St Kilda: So, there’s this guy, Theodoros Tsalkos, who got into some serious trouble for allegedly pretending to be a cop and raping two teenage sex workers back in the late ’80s. It’s been over 36 years since those awful events, and now he’s getting a fresh trial because his previous convictions were tossed out.
He was found guilty of some pretty horrific stuff, like kidnapping and rape, and was sentenced to over 13 years in prison. But here’s the twist: he’s now in his 60s and has appealed his convictions, claiming there were some major mistakes made during the trial.
Back in 1987, he was just 25 when he picked up two girls, aged 15 and 16, under the guise of being an undercover officer. He allegedly held them captive in his car and assaulted them for hours. The judge at his last trial didn’t hold back, calling his actions “pure evil” and “sadistic.”
But after a long wait, the Court of Appeal decided that the jury was misled during the trial, which led to a significant miscarriage of justice. They’ve ordered a new trial, saying the previous jury didn’t get the right info to make a fair decision.
One of the judges even pointed out that there were issues with how both the defense and prosecution handled things during the trial. It’s a wild turn of events, and now Tsalkos will have to face the music all over again.
