Uxbridge: So, there’s this accountant, Ivan Soares, who’s been in a crazy 10-year fight with his neighbor over a parking space. Can you believe it? He claims he couldn’t defend himself in court because of a toothache. Talk about bad timing!
It all started in a quiet cul-de-sac in West London, where Ivan and his neighbor, Manish Kothari, have been at each other’s throats over just a few feet of parking space. They’ve racked up around £100,000 in legal fees. Yikes!
The whole mess revolves around three parking spots right outside their homes. Both sides have been suing each other, and it’s been a real headache for everyone involved.
In April 2023, the Kotharis won a hefty £60,140 in damages after claiming they were constantly blocked in by Ivan’s “high-handed” parking. The judge even awarded Ivan and his wife a small amount for trespass, but it didn’t help much.
Fast forward to last week, and Ivan tried to reopen the case, saying his toothache kept him from attending the trial. His lawyer argued that he couldn’t eat or speak properly, which sounds pretty rough.
But the judge wasn’t having it. He said Ivan could’ve communicated with his lawyers even if he couldn’t speak. He concluded that Ivan didn’t have a good reason for missing the trial, and the case was closed.
It’s a wild story, and you can’t help but feel for the guy. But at the end of the day, the judge made it clear: no valid excuse means no retrial. What a saga!
