Blyth: So, Ian Lavery, the MP for Ashington and Blyth, has been dealing with some pretty nasty abuse lately. It all kicked off after Parliament voted against a new inquiry into grooming gangs.

He’s really upset about the attacks on him, his family, and his staff. It’s just not right. This all happened after a vote on the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, which was a big deal.

There was a Conservative amendment that wanted to push for a national inquiry into these grooming gangs. But Labour shot it down, saying it could mess up the whole bill. They were worried it would derail important legislation.

Interestingly, this amendment came after Elon Musk, you know, the guy behind Tesla, called for a new inquiry. It’s a bit of a mess, especially since there was already a thorough review done a few years back.

In a social media post, Lavery expressed how disgraceful the abuse has been. He’s frustrated that people think he’s trying to silence victims. He pointed out that two of his colleagues have been murdered, and the current climate is dangerous.

He reminded everyone that a proper inquiry into child sexual abuse was done back in 2014, which took years and involved thousands of victims. The bill that passed is meant to help kids, providing free breakfasts and capping profits for social care providers.

Lavery stressed that child sexual abuse is a serious issue and shouldn’t be used for political games. It’s about making a real difference for children in his area.

On a related note, Jess Phillips, the safeguarding minister, mentioned she’s been getting a ton of hate after Musk accused her of being a “rape genocide apologist.” It’s been a tough time for a lot of people in politics lately.
