Aberdeenshire: A food bank in Aberdeenshire is getting some much-needed help this winter. A social enterprise is stepping in to support local communities.
Places for People is teaming up with 49 warm banks and food banks across the UK, including the one in Aberdeenshire. This partnership is part of their Winter Ready campaign.
The resources will be sent to the Developments Scotland facility at Chapelton. Marcus Hulme, the Director of Places Impact, shared that winter can be tough, especially with issues like damp and mould in homes.
Through this campaign, they want to help people recognize and manage these problems. Plus, they want everyone to know there’s a safety net available for them.
By backing food and warm banks, they’re making sure communities have the resources they need to get through the cold months. It’s all about providing support and confidence during a challenging time.
This initiative comes after a survey showed a real need for help with food and heating. Over 20% of people in Scotland said they can’t afford to heat their homes, and 16% ran out of food.
Many folks are looking for low-cost food options and help with energy bills. Marcus emphasized the importance of listening to the community and making decisions based on their needs.
Sadly, the survey results confirm what they already suspected: many people are still struggling. By supporting local food and warm banks, they hope to ease some of that pressure and improve wellbeing.
