Bury St Edmunds: So, here’s the scoop. The A134 Sicklesmere Road is going to be closed for eight weekends starting February 21. This is all part of some roadworks for a new housing development.
They’re building a roundabout for the Hopkins Homes Abbots Vale project, which is off Rougham Hill. It’s going to be a bit of a hassle, but it’s necessary.
From February 17, there will also be temporary traffic lights during the weekdays. The roundabout is part of a bigger plan for 363 homes, separate from another development nearby with over 900 homes.
A spokesperson from Hopkins Homes mentioned they know this will disrupt local life a bit. They’re working with Suffolk Highways to manage traffic and minimize the inconvenience.
In the long run, these changes should make things safer and help connect to the A14 better, which is good for the community.
They really appreciate everyone’s patience while they get this done. The closures will happen from 8 PM on Fridays until 5 AM on Mondays on specific weekends through May 5.
Don’t worry, there will be diversion routes set up. The whole project is expected to wrap up in spring.
Residents and businesses can join a public session on February 5 from 1 PM to 3 PM at Southgate Community Centre. It’s a chance to learn more and ask questions about the works.
Looking ahead, there’s also a plan for a new bridge over the River Lark to connect the two developments, set for construction in 2025/2026. This should make access to the A14 much easier.
