Miami Valley: The area has been hit with several inches of snow on Sunday, making the roads pretty slick and tricky to navigate.

We caught up with Mandi Dillon from the Ohio Department of Transportation. She shared what drivers can expect on the roads.

“Right now, the snow is falling just as fast as our crews can plow it, so a lot of our roads are snow-covered,” she mentioned.

ODOT’s crews are planning to be out all night, trying to keep up with the snowfall, but it’s definitely a tough job.

“The roads won’t be perfect,” Dillon added. “We’re just trying to make them passable for anyone who needs to head out.”

She also noted that they’ll treat any slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses, if the roads freeze up again.

One ongoing issue for ODOT is that their plows sometimes get hit by other vehicles while they’re working.

On Sunday alone, three plows were struck, which is concerning.

“We just want to remind everyone to use their winter driving skills,” Dillon said. “If you see our plows, please give them some space.”

This winter, 12 plows have been hit so far, compared to 22 last winter, which is quite alarming.
