Blairgowrie: A new sports pavilion has opened at Davie Park. It cost £900,000 and will serve the local community.

The launch included a tribute to Sandy Thomson, a key supporter. The social area is named The Thomson Room in his honor.

First Minister John Swinney presented Sandy with a plaque during the ceremony. Sandy expressed pride and relief at the project’s completion.

He emphasized the pavilion’s importance for all ages and abilities in Rattray.

Davie Park hosts Blairgowrie Junior FC and various youth teams. There’s also a new women’s team and an over-35s team.

Walking football sessions are available for everyone to join in. About 400 people are part of the community football teams, and the number keeps growing.

The pavilion features changing rooms, toilets, showers, and a flexible social space. It will also be open for wider community use.

The opening marks the latest step in a £2 million investment in Davie Park. This project has taken years of hard work and fundraising.

The pavilion is the second phase of development, following a new 3G pitch and other upgrades completed in 2022.

Mr. Swinney praised the club’s contributions to the community and thanked everyone involved in the project.
