Sherman: The search is still on for an 8-year-old girl from Oklahoma who went missing after her family’s SUV was swept away in floodwaters on Christmas Eve. This heartbreaking event happened when the vehicle got stuck in a drainage ditch near U.S. 75 and Taylor Street.

The accident took place around 9:30 a.m., trapping six people inside. Sadly, her father, Will Robinson, a beloved high school coach from Durant, didn’t make it. Thankfully, four other family members were rescued.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has stepped in, approving state search and rescue teams to help find the little girl. On Wednesday, the search expanded beyond Sherman, focusing on nearby creeks.

By 2 p.m., searchers had covered about seven miles of creek but hadn’t found her yet. They decided to shift their efforts to new areas that hadn’t been searched. The search continued until dark, with plans to start again early Thursday morning.

As of 4 p.m., the Sherman Police Department reported that extensive searches had been ongoing for over 36 hours without success. They also asked everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this incredibly tough time. They promised to share updates when they could.

Meanwhile, the police mentioned they don’t need any more volunteers or donations right now. They really appreciate the community’s kindness, especially with offers of snacks and drinks, but their focus needs to be on finding the girl.

Anyone who might have useful information is encouraged to reach out to the Sherman Police Department’s non-emergency number.
