San Francisco: With the fantasy football season wrapped up, it’s a great time to peek into what’s coming in 2025. We learned a lot about running backs in 2024, and there are five big questions that could really shake up fantasy drafts next year.
First up, what’s the deal with Christian McCaffrey? He was a huge letdown as the first overall pick this season. After a stellar 2023, he only played four games this year and didn’t score a single touchdown. Injuries really took a toll on him, and now at 29, we have to wonder if he can bounce back. I still believe in his talent, especially in the 49ers’ offense, but his health is a big question mark. He might be a bit of a gamble in drafts next year.
Next, let’s talk about free agency. Last season, we saw some veterans shine after switching teams, like Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry. But the 2025 free agent class doesn’t look as promising. Aaron Jones and Najee Harris are the big names, but the rest are mostly players with injury issues. Unless someone lands in a prime RB1 spot, they might not be worth the hype.
Now, what about Bucky Irving? He surprised everyone as a rookie, finishing as the RB16 despite limited snaps. He was super efficient, outshining Rachaad White. The big question is whether the Bucs will give him a bigger role next season. If he gets more touches, he could be a steal in drafts.
Chase Brown is another interesting case. He started slow but really picked up after an injury to Zack Moss. He showed he can be a top back, but with Moss still around, it’ll be interesting to see how the Bengals split carries. They might not be as explosive next year, so we’ll see if Brown can keep up his performance or if he fades into a timeshare.
Lastly, keep an eye on Ashton Jeanty. He had an incredible college season and is likely to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft. Depending on where he lands, he could shoot up fantasy boards. A team with a dual-threat quarterback could really help him shine. While first-round running backs can be hit or miss, I think Jeanty has the potential to succeed if he finds the right fit.
