San Francisco: Brock Purdy took a hit during the 49ers’ game against the Lions, and it didn’t end well. Late in the fourth quarter, he got sacked and hurt his elbow.
After the game, Coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned that Purdy is dealing with a nerve issue in his throwing arm. That’s not good news, especially with the season wrapping up.
Purdy himself said it didn’t feel great. He tried throwing on the sideline but couldn’t get it done. Thankfully, his UCL was fine, but the pain was real.
During the game, he was sacked right before the two-minute warning. Lions safety Brian Branch got him, and Purdy landed awkwardly. You could see him clutching his wrist right away.
He tried to shake it off but ended up needing backup Joshua Dobbs to finish the game. Dobbs did score a touchdown, but the 49ers still lost by six points.
Purdy had a solid game overall, completing 27 of 35 passes for 377 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He even ran for a touchdown earlier, but it wasn’t enough.
With this loss, the Lions improved to 14-2 and are gearing up for a big matchup against the Vikings. Meanwhile, the 49ers are out of the playoff picture and will face the Cardinals next week.
Purdy’s injury adds to the uncertainty as he heads into the offseason. He’s eligible for a contract extension soon, but with his performance dipping and now this injury, it’s a tricky situation.
Last season, he led the 49ers to the Super Bowl, but now it’s unclear what kind of deal the team will offer him. Other quarterbacks are cashing in big, and Purdy’s future is definitely up in the air.
