San Francisco: The NBA is shaking things up for the All-Star Game. They’ve tried a bunch of formats before, but nothing really got the players to step up their game. It’s been all about scoring and zero defense, making it pretty dull to watch.
Now, they’re introducing a four-team mini-tournament. The idea is to make it fast-paced and exciting. Here’s the scoop: 24 All-Stars will be split into three teams of eight, plus the winning team from the Rising Stars game. They’ll compete in a knockout bracket, playing to 40 points. The winners will face off in a championship game.
Don’t worry, the Saturday night events like the Dunk Contest and 3-Point Shootout will stay the same. As for picking the All-Star teams, that process remains unchanged. Fans, players, and media will vote for the starters, while coaches will choose the reserves.
And guess who’s going to be the honorary GMs? Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith from TNT’s Inside the NBA. They’ll draft the players on February 6, just before a doubleheader that night.
The All-Star Weekend is set for February 14-16, 2025, in the San Francisco Bay Area, hosted by the Golden State Warriors. The big tournament will kick off on Sunday, February 16, at Chase Center, starting at 8 p.m. ET. It’s going to be a blast!
