Newbold Verdon: So, there’s this housing development that’s causing quite a stir. They just announced plans for 135 more homes in a project that’s already got folks riled up.

Originally, they were going to build 239 homes off Brascote Lane, and that’s already in the works. But now, Richborough Estates wants to add even more homes to the mix. It’s like they’re trying to squeeze in as many houses as possible!

People were really against the first plans. One resident even called the area “the very personification of rurality.” Can you believe that? Almost 90 objections were sent in, but the plans got the green light after some back and forth with the council.

Now, the second phase will use the same roads as the first phase. The main access will still be off Brascote Lane. They haven’t shared the sizes of the new homes yet, but they did mention that 40% will be affordable. That’s something, at least.

They’re also planning a playground and nearly two acres of green space. Plus, there’s talk of a 12-acre country park that’s part of the first phase. Richborough Estates claims this new phase will offer a variety of housing options in a nice environment. Sounds good, right?

But not everyone is convinced. When the council first shot down the plans, one councillor said the village already had enough traffic issues. Another council leader called the application “stupid.” Ouch!

On the flip side, a planning agent argued that the country park would be a big win for the community. Last year, a planning inspector overturned the council’s decision, saying there’s a real need for affordable homes in the area.

If you want to check out the details for the second phase, you can find them on the council’s planning portal. And if you’ve got thoughts or objections, make sure to get them in by January 27!
