The council recently met to discuss plans, and they’re moving forward with a £12.42 million grant from the Liverpool City Region. This money will help improve the Huyton Active Travel Corridor and make things better at Tarbock Island.
Back in 2021, the Department for Transport gave a huge £710 million Transport Settlement to the Combined Authority. Knowsley Council jumped at the chance and secured funding to build a new travel corridor along Wilson Road and fix up Junction 6 on the M62.
With this funding, new footpaths and cycle lanes will connect Huyton Business Park to the village center. They’ll also widen the lanes at Tarbock Island to help with the traffic flow, linking Halsnead Garden Village to Huyton town center and the bus and train stations.
Tarbock Island has been a real headache for drivers, with constant delays and congestion. The council warns that while the work is going on, there might be even more traffic in the area.
Cllr Tony Brennan from Knowsley Council said this funding is a big step towards making the borough more connected and sustainable. He believes the project will not only help cyclists and walkers but also improve traffic flow, benefiting everyone in the community. They’re committed to getting this done right and making sure it helps the locals as much as possible.
